The final of this year’s CHAN competition was played in the magnificent Stade Mohamed V in Casablanca, Morocco.
The hosts thrashed Nigeria 4-0 in the final played on Sunday in Casablanca, to win the competition for the first time.
The boys, who thrilled Nigerians with their gusty football on their way to the final, were a shadow of themselves yesterday, as Morocco strolled to a 4-0 victory in the final of the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Zakaria Hadraf opened scoring for the North Africans in the 45th minute, a numerical advantage followed with Peter Eneji receiving his matching orders for the home based super eagles after picking up a second booking which reduced his team to 10 men. Super Eagles were reduced to 10 men, after Peter Eneji picked up a second booking for bringing down Mohamed Nahiri.
The defender had been booked in the first-half and another reckless tackle in the second half saw him get his marching orders.
Thirteen minutes later the goal scoring commenced. Walid El Karti scored in the 61 minute of the game, Hadraf also scored in the 64 minute and El KaabiAyoub continue his scoring record in the competition in the 73 minute, this made it his 9th of the competition – after several efforts on the night.
If the Eagles had a chance to score it came through Gabriel Ikechukwu, – with Nigeria still a goal down – but the forward was tripped as he attempted to dink the ball over the on rushing Morocco goalkeeper.
An appeal for a penalty by the Super Eagles was instantly dismissed by the Referee.
The Eagles had only one shot on target for the duration of the game.
Morocco thus won their first ever CHAN trophy – which has eluded Nigeria the third time of asking.
